When we talk about creating a respectful and supportive home environment, small gestures can go a long way. One of our favourite stories comes from an employer who reminded us how powerful kindness can be in transforming not just working relationships—but lives.
A warm welcome like no other
Most domestic helpers arrive in Singapore filled with a mix of nerves and hope, stepping into a new chapter far away from home. For this particular helper, her first day turned into something unforgettable. As she walked into her new home, she was greeted not just with instructions and a smile—but with a beautiful bouquet of fresh flowers, hand-picked by her new employer.
More than a routine—A weekly retreat
But the kindness didn’t stop there. After noticing how physically and emotionally exhausting her helper’s days could be, the employer made a thoughtful decision: to treat her helper to a spa day once a week.
Every week, she’s booked for a massage, and always leaves smiling. It’s a gesture that’s gone beyond relaxation—it’s built trust, boosted morale, and nurtured a bond based on mutual respect.
Why this matters
We often hear that respect and kindness are key to a healthy working relationship—but this story is proof that actions really do speak louder than words. A flower bouquet. A weekly spa visit. These aren’t extravagant gifts; they’re consistent reminders that domestic helpers deserve to feel seen, heard, and appreciated.
Creating a culture of care
At Ministry of Helpers, we believe stories like this show us what’s possible. When we shift the way we treat domestic helpers—from ‘workers’ to valued members of the household—we create homes that are kinder, stronger, and filled with more heart.
To the employers going the extra mile and the helpers who give their all every day—we see you. And we’re here to support you every step of the way.
